San Marzano Marinara Sauce

San Marzano Marinara Sauce

Craving a delicious plate of pasta or a restaurant-quality pizza at home? This San Marzano Marinara sauce is the first step! San Marzano tomatoes are an Italian variety that has a stronger, sweeter, and less acidic taste compared to a Roma tomato. Most canned tomatoes are of the Roma variety, so if you can get your hands on San Marzano canned tomatoes, you will definitely taste a difference! However, this recipe will work just fine with any canned tomatoes you can find at the grocery store – the most important ingredients are lots of fresh garlic, our Double Garlic Olive Oil, and fresh basil!

San Marzano Marinara Sauce Recipe:

  • 1 28 oz can San Marzano tomatoes (we used the Cento brand)
  • 1/2 an onion, finely diced
  • 6 gloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp Wild Groves Double Garlic Olive Oil
  • Dried or fresh basil (If dried, 1 tsp, if fresh, about 1/2 cup, chiffonaded)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

First, dice your onion and prepare your garlic. Add 2 tbsp olive oil to a medium saucepan, and sauté the onion until translucent. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant. Next, add in your can of tomatoes and let simmer, stirring occasionally for 30-40 minutes, until the sauce has thickened a little bit. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and right before serving add the fresh basil and more olive oil (if desired) for a richer flavor.
